On behalf of Doug McGill, president of Sixty West, we would like to say thank you to our community for all of the support and kindness through the loss of our beloved Lorraine McGill. The outpouring of words of comfort for the family and words of celebration of Lorraine, who was the creative visionary behind the magnificence that has become Sixty West, has truly inspired us all to continue building her dream and carrying out her legacy. She is missed every day but her presence will be remembered forever.
The Falcon Homes Project is a True Celebration of 25 years of Building Community and Connection.
And it is happening right in our very own community of Sixty West.
In February of this year, Falcon Homes celebrated 25 years in business and owners, Erica and John Christie wanted to do something special to commemorate. So, they did. Along with their many trade partners, sponsors and even sports teams, the Falcon home at 5 Springfield Blvd in Sixty West is being built to be sold with profits going to local charities.
Sixty West’s president, Doug McGill is thrilled that Falcon Homes chose Sixty West for their 25th anniversary show home – and their first independent charity home project.
“We are so honoured Falcon Homes chose Sixty West for this wonderful project, they have done so much for the growth for the town of Sylvan Lake and this is just another great example.”
Doug added that as builders and developers, giving back to the town is such a key element for the vitality and growth of not only the new subdivisions, but for the entire town and the people who live here.
Erica and John have a long history with Falcon Homes – including how they met – and are committed to finding ways to continue the business’s commitment to “Building a Better Community and Giving Back.”
Falcon Homes’ decision to give the profits of the Falcon Project back to the community is a truly remarkable and inspiring act of generosity. Not only does it demonstrate the company’s commitment to making a positive impact in the communities where they build homes, but it also shows that Falcon Homes values and prioritizes the well-being of their neighbors and the greater good.
This incredible act of philanthropy will undoubtedly have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of those in need and it is a shining example of how a business and each person can use their gifts and successes to uplift and empower the community it serves in Sylvan Lake.
Sixty West is looking forward to more to come with this amazing project that is projected to be completed in August of this year. And, super excited to celebrate each business that is contributing to this project. In fact, rumour has it that our very own Sylvan Lake Gulls will be joining in and laying sod!
For more information about The Falcon Project and the many trades and businesses who have stepped up to contribute to this cause, please visit the Falcon Homes website.
Thank you Falcon Homes!
Shortly after Grandma and Grandpa (Heather and Jim Oberg) moved into their Sorento custom built home last year, their daughter Lindsay, son-in-law Nick and their children moved in close by. Lindsay said that at first they thought it might be temporary, but they now know that they want to make Sixty West their permanent home because they love the community so much! That makes us smile because ensuring there is a home for every lifestyle is part of the vision for Sixty West.
Welcome to all three generations of Sixty Westerners!
Sixty West is so fortunate to have not only the Sylvan Lake Gulls and Pogadl Park next door, but the owners, Graham and Jen Schetzsle, right in our own community. And, even more fortunate that they answered a few questions for us to share with you…
How long have you lived in Sixty West?
We have been with Sixty West since the fall of 2021 as part time residence, we fell in love with the Sixty West community and have been spending more and more time here. We love the community on a personal and professional basis and it works well for where we are in our lives.
What is your favourite thing about Sixty West?
Sixty West is a charming community well suited for our come and go lifestyle. Our home here is a secondary residence, as our primary is on our farm 2 1/2 hours away. We love the amenities and the nature base feel that I feel Lorraine worked so hard to create. The Sixty West community offers walking tails that surround the entire town, a small pond and fountain that are featured in the heart of the community, as well as the picnic tables and benches conveniently located throughout the area for larger family and friend gatherings.
What do you love about your location?
Well…we are conveniently located within walking distance of our work, right down the road from Gulls Field.
How excited are you about this season of baseball?
We are jazzed about the 2023 season of baseball and what we have to offer. Our leadership has worked hard in the off season putting together details and processes for a great fan first experience!! We have added many new components, some larger, like the Bonefish Marine BBQ Shack and dove into some smaller details, where we focused on making our process better.
Do you have any highlights you would like to share?
We have many new pieces this year to share and I won’t give them all away but we are excited to share the Gulls serviced Provincial Patio as well as servicing 38 legacy seats.
Our highlight are the great group of people that we have surrounded ourselves with, from our concession staff, janitorial staff, maintenance staff, to our hard working leadership team. It makes it all worth it once the building is filled with staff, players, coaches and fans!! The energy is electric and that something we look forward to every year.
Thank you Graham and Jen. We hope you have fantastic season!
Sixty West welcomed back our neighbours at Pogadl Park, The Sylvan Lake Gulls, at their home opener on May 26, 2023. Tickets can be purchased by visitingthe Gulls website
Meet Denise Pittman, owner of DAYCARE PITTSTOP in Sixty West!
A good daycare is one that follows all of the licensing and public health requirements, are staffed with those who know the children and they work with and provide them with activities that will foster learning.
Denise adds that a GREAT daycare is one that is always finding ways to improve the care of not only the child, but the entire family. Some ways this occurs is a daycare with a team where:
1.They know that children are mighty learners and foster this by co-learning, co-researching, and co-imagining alongside the children to scaffold their learning experiences.
2. They involve the community into experiences to enrich the children’s environments. They listen to the families they work with and support them with knowledge and/or resources.
3. They ensure their ECE’s (Early Childhood Educators) are also scaffolding on their learning by going to workshops or taking courses to stay up-to date on information.
This is what Denise strives for at DAYCARE PITTSTOP. She adds that the children at the daycare love going on adventures through the Sixty West trails and heading to the local parks. With the Co-operators Play Zone Spray Park opening up for the spring right next door, she says the children (and the educators) are “loving” their new picnic and splash days.
Since opening in November of 2021, the daycare has continued to grow and flourish. Denise is grateful for the continued community support and adds that she is also hiring full and part time.
“So if you or someone you know are a passionate, creative, reliable, and dedicated Early Childhood Educator please contact Denise at daycarepittstop@gmail.com.”
